We’d like to introduce you to our snow-bunny, super sunny Training Manager, Marie. Marie is heading to London soon but we caught up with her for a quick interview.
Please tell us about yourself.
Oh hello there! I’m Marie, trivia aficionado, outdoor enthusiast, very loud singer, education fanatic, fine food connoisseur, and, oh yes, Renegade Museum Tour Guide!
Why did you apply to work with Museum Hack?
When I saw the posting about Museum Hack, I couldn’t believe how perfect it was. I was immediately hooked on the fun, non-traditional philosophy and so excited to know that other people felt the same about museums and the tour experience as I did!
Tell us about one of your favorite Museum Hack experiences so far:
I love learning things from people who come on my tours and knowing how they see the museum. One of my favorite experiences was sharing the museum with a woman on my tour who had a beautiful memory of the Sesame Street episode shot in the Met – “Don’t Eat the Pictures.” She pointed out all of these things that came up during our tour that she remembered from her childhood viewing and emailed me a link to the video while we were still on the tour. I feel like I got to see the Met with completely new eyes. After watching it, I’ll never look at the Met the same way again!
What are two fun facts about you?
- I’ve been to 49 of the 50 states.
- I trained for the olympics in sailing.
If you had to be trapped in a Museum overnight, what would you do?
Sing some opera in the Petri Court, touch ALL the statues, and fill the fountain in the Greek and Roman gallery with bubbles for a nice, relaxing bath.
What type of work is your favorite with Museum Hack?
I’m a super nerd when it comes to interactive learning, so I love designing and leading fun, active training sessions for my fellow Museum Hackers on topics that are relevant forward-thinking. I am happiest when a training session becomes a hangage session and vice versa.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I get this tingly, excited feeling when I think about Museum Hack expanding to other cities and other museums. I can’t wait to be a part of it! Also, on a more random note, winter is my favorite season. I wish we could have fluffy, powdery snow every year and that I could wake up every day to see mountains and know that I could ski or snowboard any time I wanted.
