Get to know our Museum Hack team members! This week we’re featuring Tour Guide Kate D. Check out the video intro or read about her thoughts on scandalous works and a love for spinach below.
- Which museum do you give tours at?
I give tours at the Met!
- Why did you apply to work with Museum Hack?
Since meeting the Museum Hack team and suddenly seeing the Met in a totally different way, I was hooked. After the first interview, I wanted nothing more than to find out all the crazy back stories to the art and the artists and tell them to other people!
- Tell us about one of your favorite Museum Hack experiences.
I think my favorite moment was a tour with two young ladies and a woman, the principal of a girl’s Catholic school, plus her husband. I was nervous some of my more scandalous pieces wouldn’t go over well with her, but they were giggling like little kids, so thrilled to be learning all the naughty bits of great art. It showed me that this way of exploring a museum opens up different sides of people, and they love it!
- What’s a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
I have an insatiable sweet tooth, but I also love spinach. I think it’s my body’s attempt to balance me out.
- If you had to be trapped in the Museum overnight, what would you do?
First of all, I would STAY AWAY FROM LILITH. Then I would get frozen yogurt from the cafeteria, tap dance in the American Courtyard, sing very loudly in Dendur, ride Bubbles, and fall asleep in Marie Antoinette’s bed. I’m assuming there are no guards in this scenario.
- If you could work at any other museum, which one would you choose?
ONE WHERE I COULD TOUCH THINGS.
