Get to know our Museum Hackers! This week we’re featuring our AMNH lead and residential dino-expert, Dustin G. As the Audience Development + Team Lead for Science at Museum Hack, Dustin develops and leads fun and subversive interactive museum adventures. Dustin has spent the better part of the last decade sharing his enthusiasm for science and curiosity with the world. Learn more in the short intro above, or by reading the interview below.

  • Which museum do you give tours at?
The world famous American Museum of Natural History!
  • Why did you apply to work with Museum Hack?
I saw a tremendous opportunity to bring an entirely new and engaging museum experience to an institution that is often underutilized as a dynamic tool for both teaching and engendering love and excitement for scientific discovery.

  • Tell us about one of your favorite Museum Hack experiences.
I had a woman pull me aside mid-tour to tell me that she’s never been a museum person, and the only reason she was there was because her sister made her come. She then proceeded to say, “You are totally blowing my mind right now. This is the best time I’ve ever had at a museum!”
  • What’s a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
I was born at the same Honolulu hospital as Barack Obama.
  • If you had to be trapped in the Museum overnight, what would you do?
OH MAN. I would probably run REALLY FAST. I would use a stopwatch to see how quickly I could get from one corner of the museum to another. I’d also climb on/in/over/around anything that I thought I wouldn’t break. Basically, I’d treat the museum like my own private playground and just parkour the hell outta the place.
  • If you could work at any other museum, which one would you choose?
I already do. Come visit me at the New York Hall of Science. It’s awesome!
