Meet Lily, one of our incredible Museum Hack tour guides in NYC!
Museum Hack: What are three fun facts about you most people don’t know?
- I’m obsessed with LEGO Architecture sets, especially the Frank Lloyd Wright ones. I’ve done the Guggenheim, and if anyone has an Imperial Hotel or Robie House they want to give me, I wouldn’t say no.
- My mom took the subway to the hospital to give birth to me. Nobody would give her a seat. #NYC
- I once begged Lin-Manuel Miranda for spare change as part of my high school’s production of Urinetown.
Museum Hack: If you had to be trapped in the Museum overnight, what would you do?
Is “steal stuff” an acceptable answer? If not, I’d definitely touch all the neoclassical sculptures in Petrie Court (that marble looks so smooth!). At AMNH, I’d probably go ghost hunting. The custodial staff claim they’ve seen Margaret Mead wandering the halls…
Museum Hack: If you could work at any other museum, which one would you choose?
The ASTRA Museum of Traditional Civilization in Romania! I visited a few years ago and wanted to stay forever. It’s an open-air “museum,” so it’s essentially a big park showcasing the different kinds of buildings in pre-industrial Romanian villages – everything from windmills to fisheries to a real Transylvanian church.
Museum Hack: If you were to be reincarnated as an animal, which would it be and why?
Manatee, 100%. They’re fat, friendly mermaids who just wanna hang out in warm water and eat all the time. It’s possible that I am already a manatee.
Museum Hack: If you could have a drink with one person in history for 15 minutes, who would it be and what are you drinking?
Bubble tea with Ann of Cleves. After Henry VII rejected her, she basically just got to hang out at his court watching the drama unfold but not participating. She would have all the wildest gossip, plus she’d probably be really confused by the concept of bubble tea.
