Hannah is one of our rockstar D.C. tour guides and our Tour Guide Staff Manager! Read on to find out how she wrote a sassy cover letter to score her position with Museum Hack and why she’d lick everything in the museum if she could.
Museum Hack: Why did you apply to work with Museum Hack?
Hannah: I had heard about Museum Hack when I started grad school in Museum Studies and was very interested in what they were doing. When I found out they were opening a branch in DC as I was finishing up school I knew I had to apply! I wrote the sassiest cover letter of my life which I think started something like, “Dear Stunning Attractive Museum Hack Team”, pressed send and waited. I wanted to work for Museum Hack because they were turning the museum world upside down. They were breaking down the norms of what it means to experience museums and that was something I wanted to be part of.
Museum Hack: Tell us about one of your favorite Museum Hack experiences.
Hannah: My favorite Museum Hack experience so far has been AAM week. Giving tours to the top museum professionals throughout the world was beyond nerve racking. However, everyone was so much fun and beyond supportive and blown away by the time they had. Another one of my favorite museum hack experiences that happens about once a month is when typically a dad or brother is dragged on one of my tours and they clearly don’t want to be there, but by the end they are the most invested and having the best time! It usually ends with them walking up to me and saying, Museums are amazing! I usually respond, yes I know!
Museum Hack: What’s a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
Hannah: A fun fact about me is that I have worked on Archeological Sites in Greece and Italy or I am a quarter Native American (Hopi) or I have been cliff diving off an ancient marble quarry in Greece or I collect Peter Pan memorabilia, it’s my favorite book! (THIS ONE WAS HARD, I have not fun facts….)
Museum Hack: If you had to be trapped in the Museum overnight, what would you do?
Hannah: This is going to seem bizarre (so no judgement), but I would want to lick something or all the things. It became a running joke on one of my archeological sites to touch the objects you would find to your tongue, sometimes it would be to tell to difference between wood & bones, or sometimes it would be just because.
Museum Hack: If you could work at any museum, which one would you choose?
Hannah: Hands down the British Museum. I have always wanted to live in London and the British Museum has the most amazing collection! I could spend years there and still not be content.
Museum Hack: If you were to be reincarnated as an animal, which would it be and why?
Hannah: I think if I were to be reincarnated, I would be a Red Panda. Not only are they my favorite animal but are most active from dusk till dawn and I am very much a night owl. Plus, they can be a little sassy & sneaky, like Rusty, the one that broke out of the D.C. zoo and visited one of the bar-filled neighborhoods – I mean, how cool is that!
