What do you get when you combine an amazing Museum Hack guide, a Vanity Fair reporter, and the Mother of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke?
A badass private tour of the Met, that’s what!
And even more… a cover article for Vanity Fair.
That’s right, Emilia Clarke came on a private tour of the Met with us, and it was covered in the most recent issue of Vanity Fair!
How awesome is that?
The Lowdown: Emilia Clarke’s Private Tour
We love Emilia Clarke for many reasons. Aside from the fact that she is, as we’ve already said, the Motherf***ing Mother of Dragons, Emilia herself is an incredibly impressive and accomplished person. We loved getting to show her the scandalous secrets and unknown backstories of the Met on a private tour.
Our guide has challenged us to photograph as many birds and dragons as we can find in the paintings and sculptures on the tour, and Clarke is approaching the task with her usual effervescent zeal. Standing in the shadow of a stone Hatshepsut, one of patriarchal Egypt’s first female pharaohs, she triumphantly displays one of the winged targets she has captured on her phone. “This little birdie: Boom!” she shouts, her voice ricocheting off the stone walls. — Joanna Robinson
Private tours are an amazing way to see a museum because your guide tailors the topics of your tour to your personal interests. Do you love Ancient Egyptian culture? Awesome, you’ll get engaging stories about everything from pharaoh’s secret lives to trading patterns. Are you fascinated by dinosaurs? We gotcha covered.
We can even tie in the content in the museum to your extracurricular interests, too. Say, for instance, that you’re a fan of, oh, I don’t know, Game of Thrones! Our guides can create custom content about the Norse funerary practices that inspired Hoster Tully’s funeral or talk about the real houses that inspired the Starks and the Lannisters in the War of the Roses.
That’s exactly what happened on our private tour with Emilia Clarke! Our rockstar tour guide, Anna, customized the stories she told to resonate with our special guest, covering everything from badass female rulers like Hatshepsut to the dragon-born St. Margaret of Antioch.
Our guide points out a faint piece of carved string running up the pharaoh’s jawline holding the disguise in place. Thinking about it later, Clarke, who knows a thing or two about disguises, passing, alter egos, and powerful women, shakes her head in astonishment. “That is some fascinating shit right there.” — Joanna Robinson
