Meet Elizabeth, an incredible Museum Hack tour guide in NYC!
Museum Hack: What are three fun facts about you most people don’t know?
I learned how to beatbox as a member of my university’s all-female a capella group. I’m still pretty good!
I have watched all six seasons of Downton Abbey at least five times though. I’m completely obsessed.
When I was a senior in high school, I won free tickets to a Cher concert by singing in a “Cher-aoke” contest put on by an Albany radio station at a local mall.
Museum Hack: If you had to be trapped in the Museum overnight, what would you do?
I’d run over to Arms and Armor and clank around in Henry VIII’s chubby suit of armor and hop up on one of those horses and have an imaginary jousting match. Then I’d pull a Celine Dion and sing at the top of my lungs in the center of the Met under those giant gates and high ceilings. Then I’d go jump on the fancy beds and sit in every fancy seat in the French decorative rooms and act posh and have a little tea party. Then I’d run over to the oceanic galleries and find something to wham on those massive slit gong drums and sing “We Will Rock You”.
Museum Hack: If you could work at any other museum, which one would you choose?
This is a super hard question to answer, because growing up my history-loving parents took me to what seems like every museum east of the Mississippi. Every vacation seemed to include a trip to a museum or historical site/home. But I think I would have an absolute blast working at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. I could geek out daily about space travel and reminisce about when I was a kid and my dream was to grow up to be an astronaut.
Museum Hack: If you were to be reincarnated as an animal, which would it be and why?
A house cat. I’m lazy, I enjoy lounging on soft things, and I can go from sweet and affectionate to antisocial and bitchy in two seconds flat.
Museum Hack: If you could have a drink with one person in history for 15 minutes, who would it be with and what are you drinking?
I’m deep into a book about Louis XIV and all his mistresses right now, so I’d pop some good French champagne somewhere in Versailles and chat away with the ultimate French gallant. Then I’d leave feeling very pleased with myself for holding The Sun King’s attention for a whole 15 minutes.
